UNTER WASSER // SOTT’ACQUA | Lake Resia, BZ (Italy) | video installation on hydro shield

In a cooperation between the Futurological Congress of Bolzano and the municipal Theater of Ingolstadt, the German-Italian video artist Stefano Di Buduo presented a video artwork on Lake Resia on September 16, 2021. The theme of the congress was "Energy". In collaboration with the volunteer fire departments of Graun and Reschen, a hydro shield was installed on the lake, on which a twenty-minute video was projected with a beamer.
So to speak, above the ruins of the village of Graun, flooded for the dam in 1950, Stefano Di Buduo recalled the people displaced from there, who had to leave their belongings for the extraction of energy. Original quotes from the people of that time were projected on the church tower, which is a relic of Old Graun visible from afar. Then the video artist projected animated images of the vanished village and the people and expanded the associative space to the thematic arc of tension energy, which on the one hand is essential for life, but on the other hand has an enormous destructive potential.
With poetic images Stefano do Buduo showed the beauty of energetic movement and the enormous power of destruction. At the end, the former inhabitants of the village emerged once again from the floods, only to sink for good. This was a reminder that beneath the beautiful surface of the lake, now used for tourism, lies a lost world with its stories.
Despite pouring rain, about 700 spectators saw the art installation and gave enthusiastic applause.
